Berri to 'Higher Committee of March 14': Release Kuwaiti Funds!

Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri urged the Higher Relief Commission to release Kuwaiti money which belongs to the reconstruction of Beirut's southern suburb, noting that the amount owed was $16 million. "We ask the higher committee of March 14, I mean the higher committee for relief to release those funds," he said.
 
Speaking during a ceremony in the southern village of Bint Jbeil on Sunday, Berri criticized the March 14 bloc, expressing hope there will be no more government procrastination in carrying out remaining construction projects. "Even in calculations they try to outsmart us. They said we want to give the Council for South 72 billion LL. We questioned their generosity to discover later on that on one hand they give us 70 billion LL and on the other take away 90 billion LL," the Speaker said.

Berri accused the ruling bloc of preparing to disband the Council for the South in 2010 "hoping that they will rule." Berri said the March 14 bloc rejected partnership because it was benefiting from everything.
 
Berri said that Imam Moussa Sadr had called for strikes until the Council for the South was established. "This happened according to a law, and no one disbands the Council except through a law. We support canceling all funds and call for a planning ministry," he recalled.
 
The speaker also said that if the Litani project was not the project of the Loyalty to the Resistance bloc, Development and Liberation bloc and the opposition in general, "then it is better that no one from the opposition runs in the parliamentary elections and exhausts the people."
